Johannes Gutenberg Section
Gutenberg tells us about three major stages of communication among people:
- Gestures and rhythms as original forms of communication, followed by cave paintings some 30,000 years ago.
- The birth of writing in Sumer over 6,000 years ago, the Egyptian hieroglyphics and papyrus scrolls, and the copyists monks of the Middle Ages.
- The invention of printing in China in the 11th century, and then in Europe thanks to Gutenberg’s own work
Gutenberg would have been quite proud of this beautiful printing press in moulded cast iron dating back to the 19th century.
